SHAKING YOUR FAMILY TREE: QUERIES 2000
I invite you to enter a query for your Morgan County ancestors but because of our limited space, please limit to only Morgan County ancestors. If you aren't sure what part of Alabama your relative was born, died or resided in, might I suggest checking the Alabama Federal Census Index, usually located at your local library or Historical Society or Genealogical Society for the time frames before and after the one you think they would be in. Enter your query information exactly as you want it to appear including the name of the county in case of misdirection with one exception, please enter the surnames in capital letters. Every effort will be made to post your queries as soon as possible.
Once the queries have been archived for a year, I do not pull them back into my computer.
So if you change your email address please send me a new query.
To submit a query email Kathy
The Morgan County Surnames page serves as a name index to the queries. Surnames 1999

PRIDE
I am researching the PRIDE family lineage. I know very little except that my mother's step father was Robert Lawrence PRIDE and he was b. about 1889 (place unk.) and died in 1928 (AL). He is buried in Union Cemetery, near Georgiana, Butler Co., AL. He had a sister named "EMILY" Pride and a first wife named LILY or LILLIE Pride, in the area of Huntsville, AL. Children of the union were: Burton b. about 1758; Woolsey b. about 1760; William b. about 1762 and Thomas b. about 1765. Any information appreciated. *lines of descendancy of Robert Lawrence Pride and Ada Rebecca PATRICK Gipson are: Register;Duncan;Crumpton and many others. Lots to share!

POPE/CAMPBELL
I am searching for the parents and the family of Francis E. POPE of Morgan Co., AL.; b. Aug. 1819 in AL, d. March 1912 in TX My 2nd great grandmother was Francis POPE CAMPBELL ENGLISH . She married David S. CAMPBELL in Morgan Co. AL in 1839. They along with the James CAMPBELL Jr. family in 1840 migrated to the Republic of Texas. The 1860 census of Lamar Co., TX has A. E. and M. C. POPE and their children W. E. and J. C. living with Francis (David died in 1850). I believe the A.E. POPE family is the same one that is listed in the 1850 Morgan Co., AL Census in #171-171 on p250a &251a. I visited the graves of A.E. and M. C. POPE (the wife is not the same as the one listed as Mary in the 1850 Census) in Collins Co. TX last week. They are buried next to Francis POPE CAMPBELL's oldest daughter, Sarah CAMPBELL WILLIAMS.

RUSSELL
Does anyone have info on the A. RUSSELL listed on the 1840 Morgan Co. Alabama census? I've traced my RUSSELL line back to Alda RUSSELL on the 1850 census in Franklin Co., AR. At least three, and perhaps more, of his children were born in Alabama in 1831, 1832 and 1835. (They were 19, 18, and 15 on the 1850 census, so any older children had probably already left home.) I'd appreciate any answers regarding the Morgan Co. "A. RUSSELL" even if it means he isn't our Alda RUSSELL.

SMITH/FINERTY
Trying to locate any information on the Smiths of Cherry Creek in Morgan Co. AL. I do know that my great- great grandfather, Cyrus (or maybe Silas) Smith married Julia Francis Finerty sometime in the 1800's. They had two children, Lenore (believed to have died as a child and buried in Palestine Cemetary) and Walter Clinton (b.April 25, 1878-d.May 25, 1963). THE SMITHS- believe Cyrus had several brothers, one of whom I do know to be named Henry; and I believe one sister. Several of his brothers and he fought in the Civil War, though not on the same sides. I have been told that they were rich plantation owners and owned more slaves than anyone else in the county at
that time. They lived on Cherry Creek. THE FINERTYS- Little is known. I believe Julia was either half or one-fourth Indian. [Walter once recalled sitting on his mother's Dad's knee and he was a big Indian and was chief of the tribe]- And also that she relocated to TN after the death of Cyrus for fear that his family would take her son away from her. This is all I know. If anyone has any info about these families or about the land they owned on Cherry Creek, please let me know. 118 North Court St. Hohenwald, TN 38462
