MORGAN COUNTY, ALABAMA
SHAKING YOUR FAMILY TREE: QUERIES 2003
I invite you to enter a query for your Morgan County ancestors but because of our limited space, please limit to only Morgan County ancestors. If you aren't sure what part of Alabama your relative was born, died or resided in, might I suggest checking the Alabama Federal Census Index, usually located at your local library or Historical Society or Genealogical Society for the time frames before and after the one you think they would be in. Enter your query information exactly as you want it to appear including the name of the county in case of misdirection with one exception, please enter the surnames in capital letters. Every effort will be made to post your queries as soon as possible.
Once the queries have been archived for a year, I do not pull them back into my computer.
So if you change your email address please send me a new query.
To submit a query email Kathy
The Morgan County Surnames page serves as a name index to the queries. Surnames 2003

HARDAGE/HOWARD
I have been trying to find information on the William C. Hardage and Malinda
Howard-Hardage Family. Malinda descended thru her parents Thomas Howard

to Blount Co., AL by the time the 1860 census was taken in Blount Co., AL.
The Howard and Hardage Families moved to Morgan Co., AL by the 1870 census
but both Thomas Howard and his wife Elizabeth Byers are buried somewhere in
Blount Co., AL. I, of course, am trying to find any descendants of this

TAYLOR
I am looking for the grave site of a Civil War veteran, Union Soldier
named Augustus Taylor from 2nd Tennessee Cavalry who died October 6,
1864 probably from wounds received in a skirmish in Athens, Alabama
which occured on October 2, 1864. I have spoken to a few historians in
Athens and they said that a soldier wounded in Athens would probably
have been taken to a Union garrison in Decatur for medical treatment.
I am trying to find out where this young man is buried. He is the only
relative that fought in the Civil War from our family. Often civil war
parks have graves in them and I thought you might know of some or know
of some local historian that might help me locate this soldier.

McGUIRE/WRIGHT
I am trying to determine the family of Elizabeth McGuire Wright. She
was married to William Wright in GA. He was deceased by 1850 in Cobb
County, GA, where Elizabeth and the children lived. There were several
Wright and McGuire families in 1850 Cobb County, GA. However, I have
not connected Elizabeth with the McGuire's. I feel these were her
family, for she named children the same names. She moved to Morgan
County, AL by the latter 1850s as her son George was on the Mortality
Schedule for 1859, then the family was on the 1850 census. Some of the
census records give NC as the birth state for Elizabeth.

LAMONS/LEMONS
I was surprised none of the Lamons/Lemons in Huntsville had made the
updates for the website.Mordecai Lamons arrived in Morgan County
(from Robeson County NC) prior to 1809. I believe they came with a
James Black (Father in Law). Most of the family remains in Alabama
ever since. I used to disscuss the family tree with a Dan Lemon who
said he had seen documents from when Mordecai Lamons ran a Ferry
across the Tennesee River (with lodging) and also documents where
Mordecai contracted to build roads for Huntsville. While much of the
original land was donated to the state to build a school and church,
I heard the original homestead site exist on a someones land (a doctors),
and that the cemetary was in poor shape as the grave stones were sinking
into the ground. The USGS site Lamons Cemetary (on the Newsome Sink)
is suppose to be at the original homestead.
