SHAKING YOUR FAMILY TREE: QUERIES 1997
I invite you to enter a query for your Morgan County ancestors but because of our limited space, please limit to only Morgan County ancestors. If you aren't sure what part of Alabama your relative was born, died or resided in, might I suggest checking the Alabama Federal Census Index, usually located at your local library or Historical Society or Genealogical Society for the time frames before and after the one you think they would be in. Enter your query information exactly as you want it to appear including the name of the county in case of misdirection with one exception, please enter the surnames in capital letters. Every effort will be made to post your queries as soon as possible.
Once the queries have been archived for a year, I do not pull them back into my computer.
So if you change your email address please send me a new query.
To submit a query email Kathy

RUMP, RUMPH, RUMPFF
I am seeking information on Germans in Valhermoso Springs, Morgan
County, AL, around 1870. My ancestor, Augusta Christopher William RUMP
(or RUMPH or RUMPFF) was a carpenter there in 1870. He was born 30 Oct
1832 in Germany. He is listed on the 1870 census with his wife Sophia
(HENDRIX), b. 8 Dec 1836 in Germany. Sophia arrived in New York aboard
the America 18 Jul 1868 with three children. According to the 1900
census, Augusta arrived in 1867. According to family legend, he was a
guard on a ship and shot the captain who was either testing the guards
or actually stealing from the ship. This incident made it necessary
for him to leave the ship in America.
According to the passenger list, Sophia was from Oberhammelwarden,
which is near Elsfleth in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Germany.
However, the 1870 census says they were from Prussia, which did not
include this region. Were there any other Germans living in Morgan
County at this time, and if so, were they from the same region(s) in
Germany? Thanks.

I have just discovered the Morgan County Page. I was born in Morgan
County in 1941 and have lots of roots there.
My mother was placed for adoption to Joe and Ida (Wright) Echols of
Somerville. I know who my natural grandparents are as they are
supposedly related to this Ida Wright Echols.
My quest is to learn more about the heritage of the Ida Wright Echols.
Ida was born in 1873 to William Wright and Lillian Taylor in Morgan
County. I am trying to find who William Wright might be. My natural
grandfather was named Ernest Wheeler Wright who was born in Gurley,
Madison Co, AL in 1898 and when his first wife died (Jessie Lee Haney)
in Lacey Springs, Grandfather Ernest adopted my mother Mary Lee to
Joe and Ida Echols. I have the adoption papers from the Judge
Of Probate.
I have traced my Grandfather Ernest Wright's genealogy back to
1476 in England but cannot prove the true connection of Ernest to
the William Wright, father of Ida.
Maybe someone in Morgan Co is related to this William Wright.
Thanks, Alvie L. Davidson

I'm trying to prove that Mary DOSS of Pittsylvania Co. Va. (b. 1760s) was
the wife of George VEST and moved with him to Hancock Co. GA. ca. 1795-
97.
George VEST died by 1799, leaving several children including John, James,
Obediah VEST and others. They were all minors when their father died.
Samuel BARRON was the administrator of George Vest's estate; he died
while still administering and estate was taken over by John BARRON.
Last mention of Mary calls her Mary RODGERS. I believe the RODGERS-VEST
family moved to Morgan Co. by about 1810-12. There may have been another
