ABSALOM WOOD died in Gwinnett County,
Georgia in c:1860. His widow and sons moved to De Kalb County, Georgia.
In c:1888, his widow MARY WOOD (1815-1902) and sons MANSEL WOOD(1837-
1933), WILLIAM WOOD(1854-1927) and ROBERT WOOD came to Morgasn County,
Ala. All are buried in Union Hill Cemetery, except ROBERT, where did he
go? I am descended from WILLIAM's daughter MONNIE, who married THAD

CHARLIE S. BANKS, B. 1844 and his second wife, FLORENCE T.
MULLEN were married 21 Jan. 1894 in Morgan Co. and they appear on the
1990 Morgan Co. census in Decatur, Pct. 1. Their children are Bulah, b.
1895 and Maggie M., b. 1898. I cannot locate any of this family after the
1900 census. Cany anyone help me with this? Also, Charles Banks was
first married to ANGELINE PRESLEY. I presume she died prior to this
second marriage. A son from this marriage, Alonzo, is buried at the
Decatur cemetery. I have never been able to discern the date or place of

reference to John Smith's father. In a history of Morgan Co., AL I found
a passage stating that John's father was Joseph Smith who owned the
"Horse Creek Mill". Does anyone have more information on this Joseph

I am researcher and founder of The McClanahan
Society, a nation-wide family history organization with 100+ members.
Alexander and Sarah (Moore) McClanahan came from Botetourt Co., VA,
settled in Jefferson Co., TN, then by 1818 were in Morgan Co., AL.
I have found that Anna McClanahan married Alfred McGlathery, 1841, Morgan
Co., AL, but I have yet to determine who Anna's parents were. I think she
must have been a grand-daughter of Alexander and Sarah, but I have not
been able to find which of Alexander and Sarah's sons was Anna's father.
By process of elimination I've found that Anna's father must have been
either Alexander and Sarah's son John or William, but have not been able

Nixon Chapel, Marshall Co., Al. in 1904. When my cousin Doug Wilson came
to Alabama looking for relatives, he said that he found descendents in
Morgan Co. who pointed him to Cindy and her family. There is also two
families of Strawns(Vinnie and Dosie married brothers. They are J.D.'s
children by his second wife, Leah W. Watson (Clark) who he married
November 20, 1856. J.D. was a Baptist Minister, a blacksmith, and a
buggy maker. Another brother, Charles Hawkins married Georgia Ann Sansom,
a neice of Emma Sansom. I would appreciate any information anyone can
give me and I would like to contact any descendents of Malcolm's family.
I found the Strawns in Gadsden. Disie had 15 children, three died within
days of each other from Diptheria. Some of her grandchildren still live
in Gadsden. One of her sons is still living in SC but is in very poor
health. My mother remembers talk of Thompsons that she associated with
the Selfs, but I can find no connection there. There was an "Aunt" Mary
Thompson and "Uncle" Bert Thompson. THey had children named Selena,
Ethel, May, Georgia, Marzee, and possibly Asa. My garandfather's brother
also remember these people, he is the one who gave me all these names.
One of mu uncle's other brothers mentioned the Thompsons also as cousins
of Emma Sansom. I am at a loss to know who there people are because I
have accounted for all of Grannny's brothers and sisters. Unce Howard
Mozley, the uncle I mentioned that wrote the letter lived in Decatur at
the time of the events he wrote about so I am hoping someone up there

My g-g grandfather, Joshua Davidson, settled in Morgan County, Alabama, prior to 1820, then after 1830 went to Illinois. I believe that he had Davidson cousins in Marshall County. In a letter written back to Illinois from Tennessee during the Civil War, Major Henry Davidson, a son of Joshua, says that when they were stationed at Fort Henry they went back from the river to a creek for a drink and found a Confederate muster roll which read:"We the undersigned agree to serve twelve months as a cavalry company in the service of the Southern Confederacy under the command of Captain H Minur, - - Ledbetter, 1st Lieut., and David Davidson, 2nd Lieut." Then in a list of some 80 privates were the names of William Davidson and Nathaniel Davidson. The letter goes on to say that Henry Davidson supposes they were of the old William Davidson stock as their home was in Marshall County near Dittoes Landing. He says, "Mother, I am only about 200 miles from where I was born and I must say that it brings strong emotions to my breast to hear the songs of the spring birds and see so much that brings memories of my boyhood days."Joshua's father was Golden Davidson, whom I have traced to Patrick County, VA, prior to 1800.

of Thomas W. SPARKS, son of Mrs. Rutha SPARKS. Thomas was born ca. 1828in Ala., and died between 1862 and 1870 (possibly in War Between the

Barkley (1900). Louis was born in Morgan Co., Al to Durham and Cornelia
Jane Askew Matkin as the 6th child. His father died around 1868/9 and
the family was found in Yalabousha Co., MS in 1870. Louis disappeared
until 1900 where he shows up marrying his cousin, Henry Clay
Barkley/Barclay's daughter, Minnie. Does anyone know of his whereabouts

I have been searching for a ggg grandfathers name. He had a son Moses
Riley Weston who stated in his military records he was born in Morgan
county Alabama in 1826. He signed up[ for the War With Mexico under
Capt. Henry Clay at Summitt Alabam in 1846 and died 2 months later in
Meir Mexico and was buried at camp. Does anyone of any information on
any early WESTON pioneers in the Morgan county area. They seemed to have
operated mills later on. Could have there also. Moses Riley Weston's
mothers name was Elizabeth Julia Weston. She could have had a daughter
Lydia from a previous marriage. Possibly a Hodge as a maiden name. She
later had two more children Jasper Newton WEston and Nephanny Weston
circa 1828-1830. THeir father could have died in the 1833-1840 time
period as Elizabeth Julia Weston appears to be a widow in the 1840 census
