EDMUND/EDMOND/ROGERS/RODGERS/MARTIN
Edmund Rogers Martin may have been born on October 18, 1838 in Spartanburg,
South Carolina . The 1900 Census lists his birth date as August, 1838. The
1880 U.S. Census lists his state of birth as Mississippi, and suggests a
possible year of birth of 1840-1841, but the 1870 and 1900 Censuses list
his state of birth as South Carolina.
In January, 1869, Edmund Rogers Martin, at age of 29, married Emily (also
known as Emma ) Frances Cook, age 15 (born April 13, 1853 , or perhaps in
April 1854 ), presumptively in Arkansas.
In 1870 he was a farmer in Saline Township in Sevier County, and his
personal estate was valued at $200. In 1880 and 1900 he lived in Mineral
Springs Township, Howard County, where their oldest child, William Cook
Martin, may have been born . Edmund and Emily had eleven children
altogether: William Cook ~, Mabelle/Mable "Belle"~, Inez~, Frances
Elizabeth "Fannie" ~, John Earnest "Earn" ~, Tabitha "Tabbie" ~, Emma ~,
Pearl ~, Edgar/Edward Berry ~, James Lewis ~, and Female ~.
In 1900 Edmund Rogers Martin was a merchant who owned a farm, free of any
mortgage. The year after he died, Emily Frances Cook Martin became owner
of the farm, and her son John Earnest Martin was a farmer there, with Emma
and Tabitha still living at home.
